Hi, my name is Sarah and I’ve been playing viola/violin for 9 years and piano for 10+ years. I first began to play the violin in 2rd grade and switched to viola in 8th grade. I have held the principal viola role for the Campolindo Orchestra since sophomore year and have been a member of the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra since 2019. Before OSYO, I was co-principal viola of the Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra, where we played on tour in Prague, Budapest and Vienna during summer 2019. Aside from these orchestras, I also have experience playing viola/violin in various chamber ensembles, including the Campolindo Quartet, and participating in multiple music workshops. I also enjoy playing the piano, which I have been doing since kindergarten. In 2019, I was selected as one of the winners for the American Fine Arts Festival for piano. This past summer, I was invited to play a piano solo at Carnegie Hall during the winter of 2020, but that concert has been postponed to summer 2021 due to coronavirus. I love to play and listen to music and I look forward to helping you grow into a better musician!

Jordan

Davies

ROLE:

Violinist in the Campolindo Orchestra

I am currently a junior at Campolindo. I have been playing violin since fifth grade and have also played in a violin trio my sophomore year. That year I also switched from guitar to bari sax in jazz band. Though I was playing guitar in jazz since 7th grade, bari sax has quickly become my primary and favorite instrument. I hope to meet a student who has the same passion for music I do, especially for jazz! Hopefully I may get the opportunity to foster good techniques and habits in aspiring violinists and saxophonists.

Cellist in the Campolindo Orchestra

Hi! I'm Sam, a cellist in the Campolindo orchestra. I'm a Sophomore and have been playing the cello for almost six years. I began taking private lessons in 5th grade with Mary Artmann, a Berkeley-based cellist who has been in award-winning quartets and ensembles and played with symphonies worldwide. I have played in the American String Teachers Association Certificate Advancement Program (ASTACAP) annually for four years, and have experience teaching cello basics to beginners and intermediate students alike. In last year's production of the musical Titanic, I was the second chair cellist in the pit orchestra, and I have ensemble experience from participating in a summer camp in Crowden as well as trying out with a quartet for the Junior Bach Festival in 2018.

Cellist in the Campolindo Orchestra

Hi! I'm Namratha Kasalanati! This is my seventh year playing the cello, and my third with the Campolindo Orchestra. I have also played the piano for ten years and have accompanied the Campolindo Orchestra multiple times. Along with my experience in Western music, I have also studied classical Carnatic (South Indian) Vocal Music, and compose music that combines the Carnatic tunes and patterns with western notation and instrumentation. I am very passionate about equity and diversity and believe that it should be addressed in all facets of life, including music. Therefore, I aim to encourage music students to look at music not only through a technical lens but also through global and societal lenses.

At Campo, I have been principal bass since my sophomore year, which has taught me valuable lessons in communication and teaching. Beyond Campo, I'm also involved in Young People's Symphony Orchestra! Due to current situations, I've taken up a personal project to write a little "bass book" on technique and advice to help future generations of high school bassists. Hopefully, I can help you, too!

ROLE:

Principal Trombonist and President of the Campolindo Symphonic Band

Hi! My name is Connor Johnson. I am the current president of Symphonic Band, and I have almost 8 years of experience on the trombone. I have also been the section leader for my trombone section for 3 consecutive years in both Symphonic and Jazz Band. Outside of school I have been able to perform in the Classical and Jazz Contra Costa County Honor Bands, as well as the East Bay Jazz Band. Through my roles I have had the privilege of learning from great fellow trombonists, while also being able to work with and coach those who were in my section at school. I personally understand how important it is to have a good teacher when you are first starting out, as I had a great trombonist teach me about my instrument personally while I was in elementary school. He became my primary inspiration in pursuing music through middle school and high school. If you need any specific help with playing trombone, or just some general advice or wisdom, I am always glad to give my aid.
